US President Donald Trump has expressed gratitude to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk for his decision to donate SpaceX shares to American children participating in the Trump Accounts program. According to Trump, Musk’s generosity will enable these children to become stakeholders in the nation’s economic future.
Musk announced his intention on social media, pledging one SpaceX share to every child in America next year. He described this as the initial step in a series of planned contributions. This pledge comes after SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband committed to donating shares to over two million children, mainly in Central Texas.
The Trump Accounts program, launched on July 4, aims to assist families in building long-term savings for their children. Under this initiative, the government contributes $1,000 to eligible accounts for children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028. In addition, parents and other contributors can add up to $5,000 annually, with beneficiaries gaining access to the funds upon turning 18.
The public acknowledgment from Trump also highlights improved relations between him and Musk after a previous disagreement concerning the administration’s tax and spending legislation. This dispute was initially aired on social media, but the two have since moved towards reconciliation.
