Saudi Arabia and Serbia are intensifying their economic and diplomatic ties, focusing on expanding cooperation in sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, food industries, and trade. Recent discussions between the two countries have centered on joint energy initiatives, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural partnerships. Both nations are keen on enhancing the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market while also encouraging Saudi investments in Serbia.
During a recent meeting in Belgrade, significant progress was made as Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This step is expected to streamline official exchanges, facilitating closer interactions between the two governments.
Trade relations between the two countries have witnessed remarkable growth. In 2025, bilateral trade reached $121 million, a significant increase from the levels recorded in 2012. The upward trend continued in the first half of 2026, with trade volumes rising to $130.4 million, marking a 152% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
The upcoming international expositions, EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh, are anticipated to further bolster investment opportunities, business collaborations, and the exchange of expertise between Saudi Arabia and Serbia. Saudi Arabia has already committed to participating in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic advancements, cultural heritage, and investment prospects.
Additionally, both countries are exploring avenues for collaboration in science and technology. Serbia is set to make a significant impact at the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, showcasing more than 50 companies, signaling a deepening partnership in the food industry sector.
