During a visit to Baku on October 23, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held discussions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between India and Azerbaijan. Jaishankar conveyed greetings from Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed appreciation for President Aliyev’s positive approach to enhancing ties.
Jaishankar’s visit to Azerbaijan involved meetings with his Azerbaijani counterpart, where both sides reviewed bilateral relations and explored opportunities for closer collaboration. This trip follows a series of diplomatic engagements, including the presentation of credentials by India’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abhay Kumar, to President Aliyev on October 16. Kumar reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding bilateral relations during this occasion.
Earlier in October, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, attended the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku. Singh emphasized India’s dedication to peace, cooperation, and regional stability, urging collective action against cross-border terrorism.
The ongoing diplomatic interactions also included a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Aliyev on September 1, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. These meetings underscore the continuous efforts by both nations to explore avenues for strengthening their partnership and cooperation on shared interests.
