Canary Islands Brace for Heavy Rain While Mainland Spain Stays Warm

by admin477351

As Halloween approaches, Spain is set to experience a stark contrast in weather across its regions, with the Canary Islands bracing for heavy rain while mainland Spain enjoys warm and mostly dry conditions. According to meteorologists, Tenerife, La Palma, and El Hierro in the Canary Islands could see over 50 millimeters of rainfall per square meter between Saturday, October 31, and the early days of the following week. This is attributed to an approaching weather system coupled with cold air at higher altitudes, likely triggering showers and thunderstorms.

The anticipated heavy rainfall poses potential challenges, particularly in areas prone to poor drainage, and could increase risks for those traveling through mountainous regions. Authorities have advised residents and visitors to stay updated with local weather forecasts and heed official alerts. However, variations in rainfall amounts are expected across the islands.

In contrast, much of mainland Spain is forecasted to experience calm weather conditions, with high pressure contributing to largely clear skies. Notably, Andalucia might see some of the highest temperatures, with Seville potentially reaching 29°C, and Granada and Huelva expecting highs around 27°C. Madrid’s temperatures are predicted to be around 22°C.

While the mainland remains mostly dry, some Mediterranean areas such as Catalonia and the Valencian Community may encounter isolated showers. The Balearic Islands have a higher chance of experiencing unsettled conditions, with localized heavy rain and thunderstorms possible in parts of the region.

Travel across Spain may be affected by strong easterly winds, particularly around the Strait of Gibraltar, where powerful gusts are anticipated during early morning hours. Additionally, morning fog and mist could lower visibility in parts of Galicia and along Spain’s Cantabrian coast.

Despite the overall pleasant weather expected for most of mainland Spain at the end of October, significant regional differences highlight the need for residents and travelers to consult the latest forecasts and official weather warnings before making travel plans or engaging in outdoor activities.
